Pre-Camp Writing/Communication Workshop*

Monday, August 1, 2016 - 8:30AM - Noon

Presenter:  Gary L. Lilien, Distinguished Professor of Management Science & Research Director of the Institute for the Study of Business Markets, Penn State

The purpose of this seminar is to share strategies and tips regarding the construction and writing of academic publication. Most PhD seminars provide the essential methodological and substantive training necessary to execute research.  But that research must be accepted by academic journals, read by scholars (and managers?), and appreciated by seminar attendees to have the impact needed for academic success.  This workshop will address two aspects of academia 1) How to write attractive, impactful academic articles; 2) How to make compelling academic presentations at seminars, conferences and job talks.  Attendees will leave the workshop with examples and a checklist of ways they can improve their writing and presentation skills.

Pre-Camp Theory Construction Workshop*

Monday, August 1, 2016 - 1:00PM - 5:00PM &
Tuesday, August 2, 2016 - 8:30AM - Noon

Presenter:  Ajay Kohli, Gary T. and Elizabeth R. Jones Chair & Professor of Marketing, Georgia Institute of Technology

The purpose of this workshop is to help students understand the nature of a theory, the theory construction process, and to develop skills in building interesting and impactful new marketing theory.  The focus of the workshop is on nuts and bolts of building new theory (and not on philosophy of science).
